Whiteface Clowns. Whiteface clowns come in two main varieties: the Classic Whiteface Clown, which is based on the Pierrot figure, and the Buffoonish Clown, also referred to as the "Comedy Clown" or the "Grotesque Whiteface Clown." This variety often has partial (mostly red) hair and grotesquely highlighted features, most notably a red nose and mouth. Bozo the Clown is one of the clown icons who helped make this popular in North America; when you use the term "Clown," most people here immediately picture this kind of clown.
